Petit Planet Neighbors: How to Unlock & Invite All

How to unlock every Petit Planet neighbor: encounter islets, bond levels, invitations, neighbor capacity, houses and base vs invite neighbor differences.

Petit Planet guide · By Petit Planet Wiki

On this page

The Petit Planet neighbor system has two very different tracks. Five base neighbors join through the story and require no invitation. The other twelve are found in the Starsea, and the process is more involved: encounter, meet again, visit, then settle. Here is the full sequence without the guesswork.

Base neighbors vs invite neighbors

Base neighbors are part of the main cast. Mobai, Elsasani, Glenn, Mors and Trixie settle during the story, do not use Neighbor Capacity and do not have Bond or gift systems. They unlock services: Mobai handles housing, Elsasani handles voyages and vehicles, Glenn runs the shop, Mors runs the Omni-Gallery and Trixie appears in the story.

Invite neighbors are the twelve recruitable characters:

  • Hexia: Dorjelang, Heyu, Isaki, Manna, Yunguo
  • Taffeh: Harpeno, Msafiri, Tika
  • Norvan: Frostia, Medowlyn, Rebella
  • Pashah: Nerina

Each has a home galaxy, a Bond track, gift preferences, a house and at least one personal talent.

Step 1: Find an encounter islet

Invite neighbors appear on Encounter islets during a Starsea Voyage. These are special islets that host a single neighbor; they can spawn randomly at the start of a voyage or appear during one. The encounter is not guaranteed, and it can take several voyages to find the neighbor you want.

You need a Star Anchor to land and a Lumia Battery for the voyage. The Starsea Voyage guide covers the travel economy, but the short version is: do not spend your last anchor on an islet with no goal.

Encounter islets despawn after you leave. If you meet a neighbor you want, finish the meeting before you sail away. You cannot return to the same encounter after it disappears.

Step 2: Meet them a second time

The first meeting puts the neighbor in the Starcove at Bond Lv. 1. You can see their basic loves, likes and dislikes, their Journey and their Keepsakes, but you cannot invite them to visit yet.

To progress, you need a second encounter. This one is not limited to the neighbor’s specific encounter islet; after the first meeting, they can appear randomly on any islet. That makes a second meeting easier, but still RNG-dependent. Keep sailing and check encounter islets whenever they appear.

The second meeting raises them to Bond Lv. 2. Now they can be invited to visit your planet.

Step 3: Complete the visit request

When the neighbor visits, they usually have a short quest or request. Complete it and they automatically reach Bond Lv. 3. At that point, you can ask them to settle, provided you have enough Neighbor Capacity.

If the “ask to settle” option is missing, check two things: the visit request is fully complete, and your capacity is not full. Capacity is the most common blocker.

Step 4: Check Neighbor Capacity

Neighbor Capacity is the number of invite neighbors your planet can hold. It increases through the Luca Arbor; in the Final Beta, capacity increases appeared at levels 17, 24 and 28, with earlier capacity coming from the initial progression.

If you are full, you cannot invite another neighbor until you upgrade the tree. This is why it is worth checking the next few Luca Arbor levels before promising a slot to a new arrival.

The Luca Arbor guide lists the full 40-level roadmap.

Step 5: Build the house

Once a neighbor settles, their house blueprint usually arrives several days later. Neighbor houses upgrade with Tree Sap and materials tied to the neighbor or their home galaxy. Interiors open up through Homi Decor at Bond Lv. 6.

Do not sell unique furniture while you wait. A Homi Decor wish may ask for a specific set piece that is hard to reacquire.

Which neighbor should you invite first?

If you care about daily convenience, prioritize:

  • Yunguo for watering crops.
  • Tika for clearing wildgrass.
  • Rebella for mining and stone guessing.
  • Msafiri for co-op expeditions.

If you care about story or aesthetics, invite whoever you like. The roster is small enough that you will eventually meet everyone; capacity is the only real gate.

Our tier list ranks the twelve invite neighbors by utility, with the caveat that this is an editorial opinion based on beta talents.

A practical recruitment checklist

  • Keep at least two Star Anchors in reserve.
  • Check the Loomix Mart before every voyage.
  • Prioritize encounter islets when they appear.
  • After the first meeting, note the neighbor’s name; the second encounter can happen anywhere.
  • Clear a capacity slot before starting the visit quest.
  • Do not sell unique furniture while a neighbor is waiting for a house.

What about friendship levels after settling?

Settling is not the end of the bond track. You can continue raising Bond through chats, gifts, dinners, Vignettes, Homi Decor and daily interactions. Talents unlock at specific levels, and Homi Decor opens at Lv. 6.

The gift guide has every preference, and the neighbor directory has individual profiles for all seventeen characters.

Frequently asked questions

How do you unlock neighbors in Petit Planet?

Invite neighbors are found on Starsea encounter islets. Meet them once to add them to the Starcove at Bond Lv. 1, meet them a second time to reach Bond Lv. 2, complete their visit request to reach Bond Lv. 3, then ask them to settle if you have Neighbor Capacity.

How many neighbors can you have?

Neighbor Capacity starts limited and increases as you upgrade the Luca Arbor. Capacity increases are tied to specific tree levels, including 17, 24 and 28 in the Final Beta.

What are base neighbors in Petit Planet?

Base neighbors are Mobai, Elsasani, Glenn, Mors and Trixie. They join through the main story, do not use Neighbor Capacity and do not have Bond or gifting systems.

Can you invite a neighbor without meeting them twice?

No. The first meeting unlocks Bond Lv. 1; the second meeting unlocks Bond Lv. 2 and the visit. You need the visit request completed before you can ask them to settle.

Do neighbors move away?

The beta did not present a full move-out system as a core feature. Neighbor capacity is the main constraint; check the current build if you are planning a specific roster.
